14_Feb_2010_Why the End doesn’t Justify the Means

The Study Guide

1)   Share an attribute or trait from one of your parents which has been passed down to you and you see it as a wonderful blessing?

2)   When you think of carrying the name Christian what are some of the main attributes or characteristics which are to be evident in your life?(Look at some of the verses: Matthew 22:37-39,1 Peter 1:16,Philippians 2:3-5,Isaiah 61:10,Matthew 18:21-22; there may be other attributes mentioned.

3)   What do you find to be the most difficult of the Christian characteristics to live by? Why?

4)   What sins within the culture do we face which tests our faith on a regular basis?(Possible answers are bribery, lying, selfish ambition….etc)

5)   In order to walk in victory over these areas within the culture what must we become excellent in?  LOOK at the following Scripture

a)   2 Timothy 3:16-17 – Allowing the Word of God to Teach, reprove, correct and train.

b)   James 4:7 – Submitting to God

c)   1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 – Prayer is a wonderful means of standing firm in Christ.

d)   Proverbs 27:17 – Having a brother or sister in the Lord hold us accountable, asking us the tough questions.

6)   In the book, Early Christians of the 21st Century, Chad Walsh says, “It is much safer from Satan’s point of view to vaccinate the people with a mild case of Christianity to keep them from the real thing.” What do you think he meant by it?

7)   On a piece of paper write down any area of your life which could be hurting your witness for Christ Jesus.  For Example:  Are you involved in bribing or giving bribes in order to get your work done, lying in order to cover up a mistake made or anything else which comes to mind. Allow the Holy Spirit to bring up any and every area which He desires whether it is in your public or private life.  Remember, the Lord doesn’t bring up these areas to condemn or shame us but to set us free. (This is for your eyes only but encouraged to share with someone who can pray for you in these areas.  Read 1 John 1:9 and go into a time of confession before the Lord.

8)   Close the time in prayer giving the Lord thanks for His grace and the promised Holy Spirit to empower us to be His light in the world.
