Study Guide for May 23, 2010 – Pentecost - still relevant today

1)   With regards to the Godhead, The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, who would you say you have the least knowledge of?  Why?

2)   Before the message on Sunday what was your understanding of the Holy Spirit in connection with your relationship with Jesus Christ?

3)   READ 1 Corinthians 6:18-20 and 2 Corinthians 1:21-22 – What are some important truths we discover in these two passages concerning the importance of the Holy Spirit in our lives?

4)    READ Ephesians 1:13-14 – To declare as a believer that we are identified with Jesus Christ is to also declare what concerning the Holy Spirit’s relationship with us? Can we be a believer in Jesus and not have the Holy Spirit in our life according to this passage of Scripture?

5)   READ Ephesians 4:28-32 and Ephesians 5:15-20 – In these two passages of scripture two commands are given in regards to our relationship with the Holy Spirit; 1) Do not grieve the Holy Spirit and 2) Be filled with the Holy Spirit.

a)    In the above passages what causes the heart of God to grieve?  Write down those things that can grieve the Holy Spirit who indwells you.

b)   In the above passages what causes the heart of God to be joyful when we are filled with the Holy Spirit?  Write down those things which the Holy Spirit desires to fill us to do.

6)   READ Psalm 139:23-24 – Go into a time of prayer waiting on the Holy Spirit to search your.  Let the Lord reveal areas discussed from question # 5 where the Holy Spirit has been grieving.  You may want to get a piece a paper and write down those things the Lord is revealing which has been grieving His heart.

7)   After writing down those things the Holy Spirit has revealed go into a time of confession and repentence and then present yourself before the Lord and ask Him to fill you anew with the Holy Spirit.  (References: 1 John 1:9 and John 14:13-14)

8)   End the time praising God for what He has done.

Reminder:  We are continually being commanded to be filled with the Holy Spirit.  Make it a practice to allow the Lord to search your heart and to disclose any area that needs to be dealt with so that the Holy Spirit can fill you to overflow.
