A Time To Be Thankful

ImageIt’s thanksgiving time again this year, and how fast this year is going!  But we can’t let it go without stopping our busyness, our preoccupations, our forgetfulness or anything else for a brief while and say “Lord, how you’ve blessed me through this year, and I just want to say ‘thank you!’”

William Arthur Ward, one of the most quoted writers of inspirational maxims once wrote: “God gave you a gift of 86,400 seconds today. Have you used one to say “thank you?”
Well, this Sunday let’s devote more than a few seconds to say that much to Him in a variety of ways; let’s approach this Sunday with joy, singing: “Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good, His love endures forever!”

However, beyond saying “thank you” to the Lord, Thanksgiving Sunday also gives us the opportunity to bless others with our grateful giving.  Again a quote by Ward gives perspective.  He says: “Feeling gratitude and not expressing it is like wrapping a present and not giving it.”  How true, isn’t it?

This year our attention is on children; village children struggling to have an education, in one of the poorest states of our nation.  40 train hours away, high in the mountains of Serango is our CAP school for tribal children—the Jisu Prem English School, started 4 years ago to provide a good education rooted in strong Christian values.  Today 250 children enter the school every day with hopes and dreams of a better future shining in their eyes.  And our vision is to see them through to college, so that one day, our children and JPES children can be on par with job and career aspirations.

Therefore, this Thanksgiving all proceeds from activities and offerings will go to the school.  Our hope is that the remaining 150 children that are yet unsponsored will find a sponsor; that urgent infrastructure needs like staff living accommodations can get underway and that through our generous giving children in Serango will continue to smile—smiles of hope for a bright future.
