Thanksgiving 2012

ImageThe year 2012 seems to be in an extraordinary hurry to finish its run.  It’s difficult to believe that ten months of this year have been relegated to the annals of history, but they have; they’ve literally sped by.  And before Advent and the Christmas season too come upon us, let’s press “pause” -- and just take a moment, to say “Thank you, Lord!”  In known or unknown ways, acknowledged or not, visible or unseen, truly His hand has sustained us thus far, and for that two words, insufficient though they be, must emanate from our hearts—“Thank you!”

“Thanksgiving” or “Harvest” or “First Fruits” or whatever name we give is really a time for us to stop, and give thanks to God for His mercies which “are new every morning.”  Truly, we can all say in one mighty chorus, “Great is Your faithfulness!”  And that’s what we must hear--resounding echoes from every corner of the world, saying: “Our God is Faithful.”  Whether or not a promotion came, whether or not health was an issue or storm clouds hovered or relationships got strained; whether or not finding a spouse remains an illusory mirage or children stretch one’s patience, if one is honest, the hand of the Lord has strengthened, supported, comforted and cared for us through this year.  And for that we ought to be thankful.  So, with joy and assurance, let’s celebrate the faithfulness of our God in the midst of our congregations and our families through this “Thanksgiving” month.

“O that men (and women) would praise the Lord for His goodness, and for His wonderful works to the children of men.”  (Psalm 107:8)

To that we say, Amen!
