On Christ, The Solid Rock, I Stand!

Image In India, every hour, 15 people decide that life isn’t worth living, and end it.  Fifteen people…every hour.   How tragic!  To think that in a moment of crisis, no options surface that provide hope or a reason to live.  Jim Collins, talking about how some companies made it through difficult times says that: “…in times of great duress, tumult, and uncertainty, you have to have moorings.”  These companies, he said, “had an incredible fabric of values, of underlying ideals or principles that explained why it was important that they existed.”   In short they had a raison d'etre.  The same holds true for people. Yet, sadly, it seems like family, friends and attachments are not strong enough “moorings” these days, to prevent the snuffing out of life.

I am so thankful for hymns that remind me of “How strong a foundation is Jesus my Lord,” and on “Christ the solid Rock I stand,” and “He giveth more grace when the burdens grow greater…” that the moorings God offers are rock solid, unshakeable and reliable.  Hymn-writer Priscilla Owens put it well when she asked:  “Will your anchor hold in the storms of life, when the clouds unfold their wings of strife?  When the strong tides lift, and the cables strain, will your anchor drift, or firm remain?”  And then that beautiful, confident, assuring answer: “We have an anchor that keeps the soul, steadfast and sure while the billows roll; fastened to the Rock which cannot move, grounded firm and deep in the Saviour’s love!”

So thankful for that Love and earnestly hopeful that ones in desperate situations would know it too, and find hope.  Call, if you need to find HIM!
