2010 - No Misgivings
Like it or not, ready or not, 2010 is here! Another year that God has given us to be changed into His likeness. As Paul writes in his letter to the Corinthians: “But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.” (2 Cor. 3:18-4:2 KJV) That is God’s vision for us—to be moulded and re-shaped once again by His Spirit into the kind of men and women who would light up the world.
Like it or not, ready or not, 2010 is here! Another year that God has given us to be changed into His likeness. As Paul writes in his letter to the Corinthians: “But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.” (2 Cor. 3:18-4:2 KJV) That is God’s vision for us—to be moulded and re-shaped once again by His Spirit into the kind of men and women who would light up the world. 2009 might have been a challenge in that area of conformity. Stubborn wills, fleshly desires or worldly allurements, sometimes have a habit of obscuring God’s wonderful purposes for our lives, and we are left with living life in the as “is” mode rather than in the as “ought.” We kid ourselves that we’ll change, that time is in our hands and that soon we’ll begin to allow God to do the re-shaping…. But 2010’s appearance drives home the hard fact that time can and will, suddenly run out—just as 2009 has, and when it does what we’re left with is what “was,” accompanied, of course, with regret. Now, regret isn’t a happy life companion; regret leaves a bitter taste, is a killjoy, is no fun to have around, and so I say: let’s make sure that 2010 leaves no room for regret. How? Let’s live life as we “ought,” in perfect sync with God’s will for us, and allow His Spirit enough room to continue the remodeling. And let’s say with songwriter Earl E. Marlett: Lord, we are able, our spirits are Thine Remould them, make us, like Thee, divine Thy guiding radiance above us shall be A beacon to God, to love and loyalty.
